The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford, Wrekin, and mid Wales.  We are a values-led organisation employing over 6,000 colleagues with a vision to provide excellent care to the communities we serve.

After consulting on the future of acute hospital services across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Powys, plans were confirmed to develop an emergency care centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and a planned care centre at the Princess Royal Hospital (Telford). In the new service model, key specialist services will be consolidated onto single sites (with the required clinical adjacencies), meaning that when patients need specialist care, they will get the best care available at the right time from the right clinicians. Both hospital sites will provide 24/7 urgent care, and routine services such as outpatients and diagnostics, so that most people will continue to receive care at their local site.

The Hospitals Transformation Programme has been established to drive forward the delivery of this significant initiative and a draft Strategic Outline Case has been finalised and submitted to regulators for review and approval. This reconfiguration of services is an essential part of ensuring that the health requirements of our communities can continue to be met in a sustainable way over the long term.  The changes will also mean that all of our catchment population will receive better quality healthcare and enjoy a much improved patient experience.

We are seeking a Programme Director with the passion and commitment to lead the delivery of this programme and help us to make the most of this once in a lifetime investment in our local healthcare system.  This role will operate at the heart of our Integrated Care System and will be pivotal in securing the ongoing engagement of our partners, our communities and our regulators.  This is a high-profile position with responsibility for the development of robust business cases that will withstand Department of Health and Social Care and HM Treasury scrutiny and once approved, for the implementation of this significant capital project. 

We are seeking a positive, politically astute, resilient leader to join our dynamic new leadership team reporting directly to the Senior Responsible Officer. Bringing significant experience of delivering major, complex, multi-year infrastructure projects, you will be energised by our values and by the opportunity to deliver change at scale, working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally.  You will bring a robust, rigorous approach that ensures a strong grip on delivery through the utilisation of proven programme management skills.
