The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) is a major Department of State that plays a critical role in UK life. Operating at significant size and scope, we provide services and support to more than 22 million people every year, responsible for more than 730 million benefits payments, totalling some £176 billion.
Digital Group in DWP design based on user needs, for a future where new and existing systems co-exist. Delivery teams are accountable for test-driven development, business analysis, testing, DevOps, data modelling, repositories, analytics and visualisation, working closely with a cyber-security team. Our Digital products underpin the delivery of a wide range of products including Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment and New State Pension. In addition, our challenge is to move from current platforms to designing the next generation of systems.
As Deputy Director, Digital Delivery, the successful candidate will be the experienced leader of advanced agile/lean techniques inhouse and tasked with ensuring all teams are empowered to self-organise effectively. You’ll also understand waterfall methodology and be accountable for ensuring effective integration with change programmes and department governance.
We have vacancies within two of our teams, Universal Credit Full Service and Health & Disability. Both are critical to supporting some of the most vulnerable citizens in society. You’ll lead from the front, engaging stakeholders and management in scoping, mobilising and ensuring the timely delivery of complex projects and programmes of work.
Delivering to one or more Agile projects you will work with a multi-disciplinary digital team. planning and prioritising the work, always recognising the capacity and capability of the team. As part of the DWP’s delivery community, you’ll share your experiences and bring in best practise across the department.
By engaging with senior leaders, including product managers & technology experts you’ll remove blockers, manage risks, commercials, budgets, and oversee suppliers and people assignments. You’ll have substantial budget responsibility and will proactively ensure objectives are met by redeploying people and resources as priorities change.
