At Birmingham City Council, we’re on an exciting journey of growth and change. We’re innovating across a huge range of services, with a focus on delivering great life outcomes for our 1.2million residents. Housing, a commitment to sustainability and the development of sector-leading digital solutions and public services are central to our plans providing an exciting opportunity to join us, and deliver the boldest ideas and concepts to build on the fantastic opportunity which the Commonwealth Games 2022 offers the city and region.

As a Director Education & Skills (DCS) you’ll play a key role in building our vision of a city where every child, citizen and place matters.

Through inspiring others, you’ll identify, drive and secure opportunities to improve and transform services. You’ll work closely with other local partners that comprise Birmingham Children’s Partnership to improve the future and well-being of children and young people, including the development of work-related skills, vocational and education opportunities for all. We have high ambitions for rapid growth and sustainable progress, you will therefore need to be adaptable and constantly focused on results.

You’ll be at the heart of the Corporate Leadership Team leading and managing the portfolio of services including: Schools and education settings, Safeguarding, Admissions, vulnerable groups, SEND, Asset management, and more. Turning a strategic vision into a reality for our young people and inspiring their progress.

You’ll support the Chief Executive, Elected Members and colleagues in turning our strategic vision into real results, inspiring their progress on a regular basis, and solving complex problems.

Working collaboratively with your team, you’ll discover the best models of service delivery, which deliver brilliant outcomes and performance and a high-quality customer experience. You’ll also lead across the organisation, setting clear goals, managing performance and resources, and creating a working environment where employees will flourish.

This is a truly unique role with scope to bring lasting change to a dynamic and exciting city. If you want real challenges that will maximise your potential, then get in touch.
