The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) is a major Department of State that plays a critical role in UK life. Operating at significant size and scope, we provide services and support to more than 22 million people every year, responsible for more than 730 million benefits payments, totalling some £176 billion.
Digital Group in DWP design based on user needs, for a future where new and existing systems co-exist. Delivery teams are accountable for test-driven development, business analysis, testing, DevOps, data modelling, repositories, analytics and visualisation, working closely with a cyber-security team. Our Digital products underpin the delivery of a wide range of products including Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment and New State Pension. In addition, the challenge is to move from current systems to designing the next generation of systems which will be able to accommodate policy changes across successive parliaments.

You will champion their needs by ensuring the customer journey is at the heart of the organisation’s digital strategy. You will play a significant role as part of DWP Digital’s Executive Team and we want the postholder to make constructive challenge to current thinking, generate innovation and encourage change. You will be responsible for creating services that are truly user-centric and the next generation platform on which millions of users and hundreds of products rely.
Reporting to the Director General Digital Group, with responsibility for a dispersed team of c.300, you and your team will be tasked with developing a deep and true understanding of user’s needs to and deliver solutions to meet them.
This role will play a significant part of DWP Digital’s Executive Team and is an opportunity for someone who is not afraid to challenge current thinking, offer innovative ideas and encourage change. It will have the responsibility for creating the next generation platform on which millions of users and hundreds of products rely.
You will have a passion for customers, leadership and technology, as well as an ambitious intent for building the best digital capability in UK public services. It will influence the wider DWP service transformation agenda and promote cross digital and cross DWP horizontal working.
You will be supported in your work through DWP’s commitment to its progressive people agenda, valuing diversity, promoting inclusion and support for personal and professional leadership development.
