Cumbria County Council are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual to join us as Waste Service Manager, leading the service through new challenges and opportunities that are arising in the waste industry. It is also home to one of the country’s most picturesque and visited National Parks, The Lake District, giving access to fells and a wealth of leisure activities.
As the Waste Service Manager, you will lead a programme of projects, delivering a professional waste service that meets the needs of our communities and is in line with our corporate objectives. This includes working with the Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract with Renewi Cumbria Ltd, and the Cumbria Strategic Waste Partnership. The right candidate will identify, develop and deliver a service improvement strategy and programme to reduce waste arisings.
Working with the Partnership and colleagues across the Council you will develop resources and processes to support the improvement agenda and lead on complex projects and initiatives that deliver quantifiable and sustainable service improvements. Service improvements and supporting the Council achieve its carbon reduction ambitions, will be key measures of success.
We are looking for a professional with experience of identifying and delivering improvements within a large contract, such as PPP or PFI. You will have good project management skills, understand the political context of working in a Council, and have high level influencing, negotiation and interpersonal skills. A commitment to excellent services and continuous improvement will be essential as will be a focus on reducing the authority’s carbon footprint.
