Assistant Director – Children’s Social Care – £103,605 - £ 112,326
We are recruiting an Assistant Director of Children’s Social Care, who thrives in a challenging environment and is continuously looking for improvements to help drive us forward. Someone who is dedicated and understands what ‘Good’ looks like and can support our journey to ‘Outstanding’. Fundamentally, this role is responsible for the Council’s safeguarding and social care services for children in the borough, working across the local partnership to ensure that high quality outcomes are achieved.
As we continue our exciting journey on building on our ‘good’ OFSTED inspection, we are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and highly ambitious leader to lead our services to Outstanding! Building on the significant improvements made within our children’s safeguarding and care services.
You will be responsible for the Council’s children’s social work services and hold a solid commitment to a relationship based practice model and systemic approach. You will have oversight of and accountability for, the MASH, Early Intervention and Edge of Care Service (includes the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, Assessment Service, Families Together Team and the Early Help Service), Care Resources Service, which encompasses our fostering, placements and permanence services; our newly formed Integrated Adolescent Safeguarding Service which brings together our Youth Justice Service, Youth Services, and education for Looked After Children.
The portfolio also includes the Children & Adults with Disabilities Service, which brings together education and social care to work in an integrated way to achieve the best outcomes for our children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), and our Intervention Support Service which focuses on looked after children, children on child protection plans and those on child-in-need plans.

We are looking for an experienced social care professional with proven leadership experience, with drive, passion and enthusiasm that can support us to deliver an outstanding service and our vision. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone excited to shape the direction for children, young people and families, ensuring they get the support, help and protection they need.
You must be a qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England, who can demonstrate how they have improved practice, can engage with partners and listen to the voice of children and young people. You will also be able to demonstrate extensive post qualification training and development of their own practice and management skills.
