RGU is an innovative, inclusive and thoroughly professional university, focused on the impact of its demand-led teaching and research. Not only are we the Scottish University of the Year in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Awards for 2021 and ranked Top modern university in the Complete University Guide, but we also have an impressive array of other awards, including (amongst many others) a Gold Rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework, placing us in the top 20% of the best universities in the UK for the quality of our undergraduate teaching and learning. In addition, in the National Student Survey for 2020 we are ranked 2nd for overall student satisfaction in both Scotland and the UK.

As a result, we are exceptionally well positioned to address both new and continuing challenges, while still supporting the regional, national and international recovery from the global pandemic. You will play a central role in all of this, helping steer portfolio development and working with our student and academic bodies to ensure the student experience - acknowledged as one of the very best in the UK - continues to develop at an optimal pace.

As one of three VPs at RGU, you will also be a key member of the University Executive, contributing to diversity of thought, generating a spirit of curiosity and demonstrating your commitment to our values of authenticity, approachability, collaboration, innovation, ambition and respectfulness.

More specifically, you’ll be responsible for ensuring effective leadership, planning and performance of all teaching and learning activity, widening access, and strategic leadership and development in the areas of learning and teaching enhancement.

In addition to relevant qualifications and demonstrable senior-level experience, you’ll have broad ranging knowledge and deep understanding of the HE environment, including emerging national and international issues, thinking and trends. Ideally, your primary focus will have been on, but not restricted to, teaching, learning and the student experience. Crucially, the ability to lead, whilst also working collegially and building strong networks and partnerships, is essential. Finally, you’ll also need the energy, strength of purpose and resilience to drive forward the changes required by the new academic and social settings we find ourselves dealing with as we emerge and evolve into the new, post-pandemic HE world.

The university’s ultra-modern campus is located on the outskirts of the vibrant and prosperous city of Aberdeen, with first-class educational infrastructure and outstanding sporting and leisure facilities, all set against a stunning rural backdrop on the banks of the river Dee. This is a superb place to live, work and develop your career, with challenge and opportunity in equal measure every day.
