The last year has been one like no other time for the NHS, and that has been no different for us at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust (NDHT). Our combined 14,000 staff have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to deliver care to our local communities in their homes, in community settings, and in hospitals.

Building on our long-standing partnership, our two organisations propose to become a single organisation on 1st April 2022, enabling us to create opportunities to share resources and expertise to make a real difference to our communities and staff.

The NHS continues to face a number of unprecedented challenges, not least managing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on waiting times, in addition to tackling deep rooted health inequalities and addressing staffing shortages across the wider health and care sector. Our proposed integration will help us to address these and many other challenges, so people can continue to access high quality and sustainable care wherever they live across Devon.

Against this backdrop, the Chair for our newly formed Trust will be taking on a critical leadership role at a pivotal point in our organisation and region’s history. That is why we are looking for an exceptional and politically astute Chair who is passionate about serving the interests of our communities and who has the fortitude, intuition and empathy to lead us into the next exciting stage of our journey, ensuring that we make the most of the many opportunities that our proposed integration and closer system working will provide.

If you are an authentic leader who recognises themselves in our vision and values, and who wants to guide our newly integrated Trust in serving over 600,000 people across Exeter, Eastern, Mid and Northern Devon, then we very much look forward to hearing from you.
