Cumbria County Council are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual to join us as head of the waste service, leading the service through new challenges and opportunities that are arising in the waste industry. It is also home to one of the country’s most picturesque and visited National Parks, The Lake District, giving access to fells and a wealth of leisure activities.
As the Waste Operational Manager, you will provide strong leadership, focus, direction, operational management and budgetary control for the waste service - including the management and oversight of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) waste contract with Renewi Cumbria Ltd, and other contracts in accordance with statutory requirements as the Waste Disposal Authority, and in line the Council’s corporate aims, objectives, strategic plans and organisational values.
The Council is committed to reducing our carbon footprint to zero, working with our communities, partners and supply chains to support our county to achieve net zero. Whilst we have a good track record of action, we are therefore looking for someone who understands the opportunities and challenges of climate change in a waste context.
We are also looking for an experienced candidate to lead and focus the service through the emerging themes that have been set by the Resources and Waste Strategy. This is a critical role in identifying innovative opportunities to improve our services. The successful postholder will act as the Council’s waste specialist providing intelligence, advice, guidance and support to Elected Members and Executive Directors/Senior Managers.
