Nuclear Decommissioning Authority
Sellafield has led the development of the UK’s nuclear industry, from the production of plutonium for the country’s nuclear deterrent programme through to the development of nuclear power generation. Today we are faced with the challenge of cleaning-up the legacy of the site’s early operations, including some of the most hazardous nuclear facilities in Europe.
Sellafield Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and is responsible for the safe and secure operation and clean-up of the Sellafield nuclear site.
Sellafield Ltd is responsible for ensuring that all activities are carried out safely, securely, and predictably, with due regard for the environment and in the long-term interests of the NDA, our employees, the local communities and our supply chain partners.
The NDA is now seeking to appoint a new Chair to lead the Sellafield Ltd Board as it sets the strategic framework and direction for Sellafield Ltd’s operations, in alignment with the NDA’s Strategy. Working closely with the Sellafield Executive Team, and others where appropriate, you will use your experience to shape and define our strategy and scrutinise the delivery of it. You will set the expectation and pace for change and improvement. Further to this, you will represent the organisation to our stakeholders, suppliers, Government, regulators and the communities in which we operate.
In addition to performing the core role of a Chair, we are seeking candidates with expertise in the delivery of complex, high risk programmes to offer insight into the ongoing operational excellence of the business. Above all, you will bring a demonstrable track record of senior leadership in the delivery of safety critical projects and programmes in a highly regulated sector. You will be a recognised leader with an in depth understanding of operating within a similarly complex group structure.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced non-executive director, with a track record of operating as a Chair, capable of heading up a Board in accordance with the UK Corporate Governance Code. A track record of leading and reporting within highly public and scrutinised, pressurised environments will be an advantage. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of building diverse boards and will be an effective communicator across a complex stakeholder landscape. You will work in a collaborative manner, building effective relationships with Board colleagues, the executive team, and across the organisation with an open and personable style.
