Northumbria University is seeking to appoint a Head of Governance & Secretary to the Board of Governors.

Our vision is to be a research-rich, business-focused professional university with a global reputation for academic excellence.  As Head of Governance & Secretary to the Board of Governors, you will play a key role within the institution. You will support effective working relationships between the University Executive and the Board. You will enable Governors to constructively challenge the delivery of our strategies and support Executive colleagues to engage with the Board. You will be a confident governance expert, ambitious to make a difference in a university with a growing reputation as a challenger institution.

You will lead and manage the Governance Services Team to provide a robust and effective governance framework, enabling the highest standards of accountability throughout the University. And you will lead a key set of wider responsibilities, essential to running the institution, ranging from Prevent and Safeguarding to Business Continuity and Information Governance

Through your membership of the University Executive you will play a senior leadership role across the whole institution.

As Secretary to the Board of Governors, you will ensure that the Board meets its regulatory obligations and that the University complies with its own Instruments and Articles of Government and related governance regulations, policies and procedures.

This is a particularly exciting time for us with a newly appointed Chair and independent governors. The postholder will be instrumental in embedding them into the University.

If you feel you have operated at a senior level within a complex organisation, have significant experience of organisational governance, interacting with Boards coupled with strong, communication, innovation, and collaborative skills, we would be delighted to hear from you.
