Executive Director of Vocational and Technical Qualifications

Permanent, full-time role

As England’s independent regulator of qualifications, examinations and assessments Ofqual’s job is to maintain standards, to make sure that qualifications accurately reflect the knowledge and skills people have attained through a range of different learning methods.

We work with other Civil Service departments across the spectrum of education to deliver on our priorities and to ensure the best possible outcomes for learners in England. We are actively involved in the transformation of the technical education landscape in England. We use our expertise and regulatory powers to secure the validity of, and promote public confidence in, qualifications the government introduces to meet England’s needs.

Ofqual is currently undergoing an exciting period of growth as we take on our expanded role in the external quality assurance of Apprenticeships and continue to deal with challenges presented by Covid-19.

The Executive Director of Vocational and Technical Qualifications (VTQ) will play a pivotal role in Ofqual's new chapter. We are looking for an accomplished leader with the ability to inspire and engage high performing and diverse teams. You will almost certainly have an appetite for developing people, using new approaches and behaviour to create an environment that encourages challenge and innovation.

The VTQ Directorate is made up of approximately 80 staff across 7 main teams. The Executive Director role in addition to leading the Directorate, is a member of the Strategic Management Group and will regularly attend board meetings to represent vocational and technical qualifications.

Ofqual is a rewarding, dynamic place to work. The team strongly encourages flexible working and personal learning & development.

Diversity and Inclusion is important to us.

We actively encourage applications both from those within the Civil Service, and outside. We particularly encourage applications from those of a BAME background and those with disabilities, who are currently under-represented within Ofqual at this level.

We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment.

Should you wish to discuss any aspect further, please contact Paul Aristides or Olivia Robinson on 0113 205 6298.

All applications should be received by 5pm on Friday 12 February 2021.
