It is an operational service, from front line staff who manage and examine crime scenes through to forensic experts who give critical impartial evidence in court.

The service employs one of the largest bodies of police staff within the Metropolitan Police Service and is one of the largest providers of forensic services to the criminal justice system in the UK and Europe.

We provide robust forensic evidence, which adds value to investigations and criminal justice outcomes for victims of crime at the earliest opportunity across the MPS.

The role

The Director of Forensic Operations is a crucial role at the heart of the Met’s FS division.  You will ultimately be responsible for providing proactive and progressive leadership to ensure the strategic operational direction and delivery of all FS and increase the contribution of FS resources to help tackle crime and criminality in London. You will play a key role in managing and navigating all operational forensic activity, to ensure the capabilities exceed the quality and quantity needed to meet the supply requirements of Forensic Services.  Working to, and supporting the Director of Forensic Services, you will provide business critical insights and participate in leading strategic initiatives to ensure cross-functional alignment of organisational goals and objectives.

The person

To be successful in this highly challenging role, you will be an expert in complex, multi-disciplinary operational leadership, you will be a creative thinker, capable of translating strategic plans and decisions into operational practice.  A successful track record operating at a senior level with experience in the delivery of forensic services or a science or technology related industry is essential, combined with a comprehensive understanding of the science and technology that supports the delivery of effective forensic services. You will be an exceptional, resilient leader who has the passion and appetite to improve operational excellence.
