Professional Standards Authority
The Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care promotes the health, safety and wellbeing of patients and the public by raising standards of regulation and voluntary registration of people working in health and care. We are an independent body, accountable to the UK Parliament and working with the devolved administrations across the UK. We oversee the work of 10 statutory bodies that regulate 1.6 million health professionals. We review the regulators’ performance, and audit and scrutinise their decisions about whether people on their registers are fit to practise.
An exciting opportunity to help uphold the healthcare regulation system has arisen, and we are seeking to appoint a Director of Corporate Services who shares our values. The new Director will be part of our Directors’ Group (SLT), playing a key part in our executive leadership, influencing and engaging at Board level and will provide expert strategic and operational direction to a team of professionals working across Finance, Governance, HR, ICT, Information governance and data protection, Procurement, Risk management, Audit, performance monitoring, facilities, health and safety and business continuity. A critical element of this position will be maintaining robust and effective systems, processes and a compliance environment and the successful candidate will bring the ability to understand the external landscape, predict and manage risks and spot opportunities.
The ideal candidate will bring substantial cross cutting corporate leadership experience and a strong track record of success, operating at a senior level, leading, developing, motivating and mentoring high-performing multi-functional teams, ideally covering a number of the functional areas within the remit of this role. You will be a CCAB qualified accountant, with demonstrable expertise in developing and implementing complex strategies, business plans and managing budgets, will have exposure to leading systems/process improvement and will also demonstrate a clear understanding of risk-based principles of leading and managing an organisation. Pastoral oversight is as important as technical leadership and credentials, as are a comprehensive understanding of legal risk and financial management, lateral thinking on topics both operational and strategic, and commercial ‘nous’. Politically astute, the Director of Corporate Services will be a sophisticated communicator with the capacity to win the confidence of stakeholders at all levels.
