The Retail Energy Code Company (RECCo) is the corporate vehicle for ensuring the proper, effective, and efficient implementation and ongoing management of the Retail Energy Code (REC). This code facilitates the efficient and effective running of the retail energy market, including its systems and processes, promoting innovation, competition, and positive customer outcomes for faster, more reliable switching. RECCo holds the governance, operational processes and requirements to underpin the new switching arrangements with the objective to oversee the development of the Retail Energy Code, enabling it to achieve its mission. The RECCo Board is accountable to REC parties for the operation of the REC.

An interim RECCo Board was appointed by Ofgem in February 2019 and is now overseeing the build-up of the company’s capacity and providing immediate support to the Switching Programme. It is intended that the interim board will remain in place until the implementation of v2.0 of the Retail Energy Code in mid-2021. These two non-executive appointments are pivotal to this transition.

Role: Non-Executive Director (NED) x 2 reporting into the Chair of RECCo

The RECCo Board is the senior governance group of RECCo and has accountability for all RECCo functions as well as exercising oversight over its operations. The RECCo Board is accountable to REC parties for the operation of the REC.

The RECCo Board requires a broad range of experience from its Non-Executive Directors (NED), with both the knowledge and experience to support and guide the executive team but also to act as its first line of accountability, appraising performance, challenging approaches and judgements and scrutinising delivery. As we transition to an enduring board, we seek two NEDs to act as subject matter experts, one in the area of Customer Experience and the second in Digital Transformation.

The Customer Experience focused NED will have expertise in the field of customer experience as well as consumer rights, particularly with regard to the problems faced by vulnerable customers. The Digital transformation NED will have knowledge of digital systems and their ability to create greater accessibility or ease of use for a large and diverse audience.

Candidates should have experience in an area relevant to RECCo needs, for example, consumer or digitally driven industry.

Both NEDs will have strong leadership skills and relevant senior experience gained in a significant public or private sector organisation. They will possess the ability to take a long-term strategic outlook and apply sustainable development principles to decision-making. They will also have a good understanding of effective corporate governance and be energetic, enthusiastic and motivated by the opportunity to develop and implement RECCo’s future strategies.

These appointments will be for two days per month (subject to review).

Remuneration will be set at between £300 - £500 per day based on a 24-day yearly commitment.

RECCo’s constituency is rich in diversity and we are keen to recruit people from diverse backgrounds who can broaden the Board’s knowledge and experience.  You need not have experience as a Trustee previously; diversity of thought is more important.
