At the Health Research Authority (HRA), our core purpose is to protect and promote the interests of patients and the public in health and social care research.  We make sure research is ethically reviewed and approved, promoting transparency in research, giving expert advice to researchers and providing independent recommendations on the processing of identifiable patient information without consent, for research and non-research projects.  We aim, with our partners, to make the UK a great place to do research, to build confidence and participation and so improve the nation’s health.

We are embarking on our search for a new Chief Digital Transformation Officer at a difficult and unprecedented time, as we collectively seek to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.  Notwithstanding our role in the current public health emergency, when our ability to operate at pace, with efficiency and clarity has never been more important, our evolution as an organisation must continue. The world in which we operate is changing rapidly and we must also ensure that UK research flourishes as we leave the EU.  As a regulator that touches every part of the healthcare research system, we need to be agile, proportionate and pro-active to meet researcher needs, so that patients can benefit from their work as quickly as possible.

As our Chief Digital Transformation Officer, you’ll play an important role on our SLT, tasked with leading our digital and technology functions to transform our digital research systems in support of our ambitious priorities for research in the UK. Modern, streamlined, intuitive and interoperable digital delivery is essential and by challenging the many ways in which we work, you’ll play a key part in securing our corporate vision.

This is a key senior leadership role at the HRA, in which you’ll be required to make a broad contribution, supporting the CEO to drive through the organisational strategy and business plan.  To this end, you’ll work closely with senior colleagues across the HRA, DHSC, our system partners and the research community, so it is crucial that you share our values and promote an inclusive organisational culture.

A commercially astute digital transformation leader with experience of having defined, delivered and maximised multi-faceted strategies in support of business change, you’ll bring an outstanding track record of delivery and will be fully conversant with modern approaches and technologies relevant to the maximisation of data in a multi-stakeholder environment.  An articulate, intellectually capable strategic thinker, you’ll be an accomplished relationship builder and ambassador, able to influence and work collaboratively, internally and externally, to provide an exceptional user experience in support of the UK’s world class health and social care research.  An outstanding leader and team player, you’ll be able to build internal capability on all fronts, inspiring outstanding contributions from your teams and partners and challenging our operating model and ways of working to maximise our impact.

This is a unique opportunity to have an important and positive impact on health research in the UK at a critical time.  If you think this is the opportunity for you, we look forward to hearing from you.
