We design and deliver the digital infrastructure, data and standards upon which our health and care system, patients, clinicians and colleagues depend. Tomorrow will see NHS Digital positioned as the invaluable hub through which our broad communities access state of the art technical applications, platforms, services, products and capabilities, to transform the provision and quality of health and care in England.

The Role

Our Managing Director will be accountable for the entirety of NHS Digital’s IT Operations portfolio comprising Live (‘production’) Services, Cyber Security, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning.  As Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO), 3rd party Systems Assurance will also be a key focus of the role. Reporting directly to our Chief Executive – Sarah Wilkinson, you will lead and inspire a mixed economy workforce of over 450 skilled technologists, managing a budget of circa £115m with accountability for a further £150m cyber security spend across the health and care system. To be successful, our Managing Director will lead purposeful, outcome based collaboration with a wide variety of stakeholder groups, including the NHS health and care technology community, industry leaders, large supplier partners, Cyber and Infosec organisations, experts and related agencies. You will also oversee the operation of our world class, exemplar National Security Operations Centre for Health and Care (CSOC).

The Person

To succeed in this hugely rewarding, unique role of critical national importance, you will have a demonstrable track record in the successful development, implementation and management of world class information and technology solutions in a highly complex, data driven environment. You will be adept practitioner of IT outsourcing, able to build high performing, trust-based, strategic partnerships with large suppliers, to maximise value and minimise risk to the organisation through effective governance and assurance. As a passionate and persuasive business leader, you will be able to cite examples of where your IT leadership skills and approach, has contributed to strategic business change across an organisation, transforming the customer experience of IT.
