Maritime and Coastguard Agency
With a history stretching back almost 200 years, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) is the cornerstone of government’s work with one of our most important transport sectors. An Executive Agency sponsored by the Department for Transport (DfT), we work to prevent the loss of life on the coast and at sea, produce legislation and guidance on maritime matters, and provide certification to ships and seafarers. We also provide a 24/7 maritime search and rescue service around the UK coast, and international search and rescue, through HM Coastguard and have made significant strides in the technology and assets available to us enabling us to enhance our capability considerably. We are the only UK-wide emergency services organisation, and our team of around 1,000 staff and 3,500 volunteers makes a vital contribution to the UK’s economic wellbeing, public safety, and international reputation.
The MCA has a long and distinguished past, but a dynamic and challenging present and future with an ambitious and innovative transformational change vision. We are looking to appoint a Non-Executive Director who will embrace the challenge of providing a high-quality service while adapting to the changing needs and commercial imperatives of the sector in which we operate. As an independent member of the MCA Board, the MCA Sponsorship Board, and the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee, you will lean on your commercial nous, excellent judgement, and outstanding leadership credentials to constructively challenge and support as needed. Major projects and programmes will benefit from your knowledge our strategic leadership ambitions will move to the next level with your engagement.
Financially qualified, with a strong strategic focus, you have successfully led or advised at the senior leadership level in a substantial, complex business. Transformational change management has featured strongly in your career, and you will bring a creative mind to the strategic challenges that we face in the business. Confident, charismatic, and credible, your relationship management and communication skills are impeccable, particularly in relation to your ability to influence and supportively challenge the status quo. Prior track record as a non-executive would be helpful, however, is not essential, and the MCA welcomes applications with transferable skills and experience from sectors outside the maritime environment.
