The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) are proud to protect the interests of water consumers in England and in Wales. We are a small organisation, but a high-impact one, and work with governments, water companies and regulators to resolve customer detriment. We are delighted with what we’ve accomplished so far: since we were established in 2005, we have recovered £29m in financial redress for customers, handled 400k complaints, and achieved a 70% reduction in complaints to water companies. There is still, however, much to be done, and we remain ambitious to secure a safe, reliable service and a fair deal for both current and future water consumers.
Following almost 15 successful years’ service, including guiding CCWater through three price reviews, we are now seeking to identify an exceptional individual to succeed our outgoing Chief Executive, Tony Smith. The opportunity has arisen at an exciting time - change is occurring across the water industry, and we too must change to ensure we deliver what tomorrow’s customers require. A member of our Board and our Accounting Officer, the Chief Executive will spearhead the development of our business strategy and ensure the efficient and effective delivery of our duties. They will also create a compelling vision of success and promote this to all our stakeholders – internal and external – leading our efforts to develop CCWater as an effective, modern consumer representation body. A key ambassador for the organisation, the Chief Executive will develop excellent relationships across a broad and populous stakeholder community which includes government, regulators, industry, academia and the consumer interest and protection sectors.
We are looking for a proven senior leader, an entrepreneurial and innovative individual who can demonstrate a track record devising and delivering strategy for complex organisations. Analytical and intellectually rigorous, you will have designed transformational and structural change, and introduced and embedded tangible improvements to cultures, too. You have the confidence and charisma to represent our organisation with stakeholders at the highest levels, ensuring CCWater has a voice in sector debate and is respected in a complex community. Experience in the water industry would be useful, as would some track record in regulation or the wider public sector, but neither is essential. Applications from those who are already a Chief Executive are welcome, but we are also keen to see people with the potential to take the next step in their careers.
