Help to build safer childhoods, stronger families and positive futures for the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people

This is a unique opportunity to lead Barnardo’s Corporate University (The BU) a pioneering initiative that will be the first of its kind in the UK voluntary sector. The BU will offer a broad and diverse range of learning experiences for its people including both paid staff and volunteers, sharing the charity’s own extensive knowledge and experience but also drawing on the very best of what is out there, helping its people to make connections and self-direct when, what and how they learn.

The BU will provide the catalyst for rapid knowledge sharing and management, as well as create a thriving marketplace of ideas generation and sharing for learning partners who share Barnardo’s values and sense of social responsibility - whether from public, private, academic or the voluntary sectors.  As Dean you will be the senior strategic lead responsible for transforming Barnardo’s unparalleled commitment to learning into a tangible reality for staff, volunteers and the young people we support.

You will be responsible for spreading the ‘learning bug’ to colleagues across the charity and beyond. You will bring a proven track record of promoting learning and knowledge management in a comparably complex environment and of using learning to drive and embed cultural change.  You will have extensive experience of leading academic and or/vocational learning provisions across a diverse range of audience and learning cohorts. You will use your creativity, strong communication and listening skills to build partnerships with a range of external stakeholders as well as embody the role of outstanding ‘Learning Champion’ across the charity, acting as an ambassador for the BU and ensuring we continue to listen to the 300,000 vulnerable children and young people we support.
