We are working with our communities to create an improved, more equal and sustainable future for the people of Torfaen.  An exciting opportunity has become available to appoint to the above position within a challenging and vibrant service. Reporting directly to the Chief Officer whose portfolio includes Transport, Waste, Environment, Regeneration, Planning, Libraries and Skills, you will be the Council’s Chief Public Protection officer responsible for all decision making regarding Environmental Health, Licensing, Trading Standards and Food/Commercial services.

You will provide strategic direction, budgetary control and management of the Public Protection services; be accountable for the delivery, performance and statutory responsibilities of the Division; lead and be responsible for the wider departments’ health and safety function; and work constructively with regulators and partners.  The Council has set high expectations for delivery of its services and are seeking to appoint an individual to this rewarding position who has the right credentials and experience, and who is committed to being part of a real and positive environment. 

If you have a proven track record in Public Protection services, knowledge of effective leadership techniques, a robust knowledge of Public Protection legislation, procedures and processes, the drive and vision to lead a team of professionals at a time of change and development and a good understanding of local government working, then we would welcome your application.
