With over 20,000 Members across its global community, the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) is a professional body that exists to promote the Art, Science and Practice of building services engineering, by providing first class information and education services and promoting the spirit of fellowship which guides its work. CIBSE promotes the profession of building services engineering by accrediting courses of study in further and higher education and is the standard setter and authority on building services engineering. The Institution provides the voice for the profession, is consulted by government on matters relating to construction, engineering and sustainability and is represented on major bodies and organisations which govern construction and engineering occupations in the UK, Europe and worldwide.

This is an exciting time to join CIBSE, which plays a critical role in a sector which is growing, and which has developed and diversified significantly over the last few years. CIBSE is now seeking an exceptional Director of Membership to lead the Membership Services function and to take on responsibility for its further development. Reporting to the Chief Executive and a member of the Senior Management Team, you will develop and deliver a strategy and business plan which will deliver growth, membership recruitment and retention in line with overall business strategy and against some stretching targets and will ensure that the professional standards of competence for the industry are maintained and developed. You will provide inspirational and stabilising leadership to a team of membership services professionals and play a proactive role in promoting the Institution and its qualifications across the CIBSE regions and internationally.

An engaging leader, with outstanding commercial skills, you will drive a culture of collaboration and high performance and embody the purpose and values of CIBSE. You will bring the vision to identify new opportunities for the Institution, together with the demonstrable influencing skills to work effectively with our many varied stakeholders internationally. Outstanding communication skills and powerful credentials in motivating teams and influencing others to deliver business change and outcomes are essential.

You will have a demonstrable track record of senior leadership, ideally gained in a membership organisation and will bring relevant skills around strategic planning, managing budgets and delivering growth of membership services. Whilst experience in the engineering sector is not essential, you will have the ability to get to grips with CIBSE’s key policy drivers and to play a key ambassadorial role in promoting the work and impact of the industry. With a broad remit, this role requires the vision, innovation, creativity and drive to help to grow CIBSE and to ensure that it continues to promote and support the profession and help its members engage with and thrive in a changing world.
