The Institute for the Masters of Wine is a professional body with an unsurpassed international reputation. Our members, the Masters of Wine (MWs), hold the most respected title in the world of wine. MWs have proved their understanding of all aspects of wine by passing the MW examination, recognised worldwide for its rigour and high standards.
There are 390 Masters of Wine today, working in 30 countries. The membership encompasses winemakers, buyers, journalists, shippers, business owners, consultants, academics, and wine educators. In addition there are 360 current students, from 45 countries, in the MW study programme. Through our members and activities, the IMW promotes excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community and has international expansion plans.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Head of Study Programme and Development will be a key member of the institute’s executive team, responsible for the delivery of the study programme and Master of Wine examinations consistently across geographies for the 300+ candidates currently preparing for the exams. Within that remit the postholder will be responsible for building the membership of the institute by attracting high calibre potential members and supporting them through the process to becoming Masters of Wine and will work closely with the Executive Director in establishing processes and building an infrastructure to enable the IMW to achieve its goals.
Leading the small but global Education and Exam team, the post holder will require highly developed communication skills, cultural intelligence, strategic leadership, a passion for teaching and learning and meticulous attention to detail. Experience of working within the wine industry is not a requirement for this role, however a genuine interest in the world of wine, would be essential.
