Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WSHFT) was created in 2009 following the merger of Royal West Sussex and Worthing and Southlands Hospitals NHS trusts. We were awarded Foundation Trust status just over four years after our creation, and in 2016 we were rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission – at the time one of only three acute trusts in the country to receive the health watchdog’s highest rating. We serve a population of 450,000 across a catchment area covering most of West Sussex. From our three hospital sites, we provide a range of services including a full emergency service, planned and emergency services in surgery and medicine, women and children’s services and therapeutic, diagnostic and pharmaceutical services.

We are now seeking to appoint a Chief Operating Officer who for WSHFT. The appointed individual will demonstrate a track record gained in a leadership role at or near Board level within a large and complex healthcare organisation. You will have substantial experience gained in operational management across a diverse portfolio of services and will have worked at the forefront of continuously improving quality, patient experience and outcomes. An established leader with substantial senior management experience, you will be responsible for the delivery of performance targets and service modernisation, development and clinical governance within WSHFT.
You will bring resilience, credibility, integrity and creativity to the role, and will be passionate about providing the highest standards of patient care. Above all else, you will have a values set aligned to our own and the capability to inspire and motivate a wide range of staff and stakeholders.
