Cambridgeshire County Council
Welcome message from the Director
Thank you for your interest in our organisation and in joining us as the Assistant Director for Schools & Setting Improvement across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. This joint venture started in December 2017 and I have been working as Director for Education since February 2018. I have previously worked in both Peterborough and Cambridgeshire but I was attracted to this joint post because it gives me, and I hope you, the remit to have a significant impact on the lives of children across a diverse and challenging landscape. I believe there is a unique opportunity here and now to build a legacy for our communities and schools.
I have been really impressed by the enthusiasm and passion across both authorities from front line staff to politicians in developing the initial joint ways of working and am confident you will enjoy the opportunities this role brings.
An excellent education and skills offer is critical to the delivery of our corporate ambition outlined in the CCC/PCC Joint Service Plan. As an Assistant Director in Education you will be part of an established departmental leadership team working closely and seamlessly with the Assistant Director for SEND, the Assistant Director for School Place Planning and Education Capital and other key stakeholders across People & Communities to build a service which supports schools, keeping them accountable, and develops a strategy for long-term sustainable school improvement outcomes. As part of the leadership team you will benefit from the support of other Assistant Directors and work in a genuinely collegiate and collaborative way. Our members are hugely supportive and committed to the changes the service needs to make. You will be heading up talented teams across both authorities working to you.
Our formal relationships with our education and skills partners have improved in the last 12 months and we are working in a much more focused way to define the problems we are trying to solve and systematically develop solutions to those problems. We have a number of agreed plans in place to improve and develop our education provision and the successful candidate will pick these up and follow them through to completion. We have rapidly improved our key stage 1 and 2 results and we need to continue that progress. We need to engage all schools to work collaboratively to drive success. The postholder will play a key role in this vision.
