Barnsley Hospital NHS FT provides a full range of district hospital services to our local community and surrounding area. These include emergency department services, outpatient clinics, inpatient services and maternity and children’s services. We also provide a number of specialised services, including cancer and surgical services, in conjunction with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. We are in an exciting period with the development of place-based care in the Barnsley area; and we are playing a full role within the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care System. Our governance processes and systems consequently need to be exemplary.
The role of the Director of Corporate Governance is a pivotal one and you will take the lead in ensuring that the Trust has in place, sound, integrated corporate governance policies, procedures and structures and the Trust complies with its legal, constitutional and regulatory requirements in order to support the delivery of outstanding, integrated care to the people who use our services. The postholder will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman to provide the appropriate assurance in regards the former elements. You will support the Chief Executive Officer in fulfilling their Accounting Officer responsibilities with respect to good governance and to maintain the highest standards of prudence, propriety and regularity. The postholder will also be be the Trust Secretary.
We are looking for considerable experience of working at, or close to, Board level within a complex organisation, including experience of dealing with senior external stakeholders, and an understanding of NHS constitutional and corporate governance matters. You will need to be an excellent communicator, someone who can demonstrate and uphold the Trust’s values; you will need sound judgement, discretion, influencing skills and the ability to maintain confidence and establish highly effective relationships among a range of internal and external stakeholders.
