Covering nearly 7,500 square kilometres, the West Mercia Police serves nearly 1.2 million residents across the West Midlands. From densely inhabited urban conurbations near Birmingham to the natural beauty of Shropshire and Malvern Hills, this diversity creates unexpected and exciting challenges for us on a daily basis.
In order to offer the best value for money for our communities, we explored an alliance with the Warwickshire Police, sharing certain administrative functions. Having evaluated that relationship, we took the decision to withdraw from the alliance and to create a new Business Services Directorate which will harmonise and enhance our commercially orientated approach. As a result, an opportunity to join us as part of this new Directorate now exist and we are seeking an exceptional individual to help take us to the next stage of our development.
Reporting directly to the Director of Business Services (one of our senior leadership team members), you will play a critical part in our future and directly impact on policing for all our residents and visitors. Essential to our success, the newly created Head of Commercial Services and Chief Finance Officer will lead the Finance, Legal and Procurement functions to ensure all commercial activity and relationships are effective and efficient and offer the very best value.
As the statutory Section 151 Officer, you will oversee all financial affairs of the Force. With a wide fascinating remit which includes market testing of all services, accounting, budgeting, financial control, Treasury, the Pensions, Procurement and Commercial Management Strategies, this will be a great place to use your considerable financial acumen in a time of considerable change.
A qualified accountant with strong senior level leadership experience in an organisation of comparable scope and complexity, you will be able to lead and embrace change, driving high standards of service delivery whilst creating a rigorous performance management culture. Proven experience of negotiating and managing successful commercial relationships, as well as excellent financial systems exposure will be critical to our success.
