Head of People & Organisation Development

West Mercia Police

Hindlip, Worcestershire

Ref: GSe53016

Covering nearly 7,500 square kilometres, the West Mercia Police serves nearly 1.2 million residents across the West Midlands. From densely inhabited urban conurbations near Birmingham to sparsely populated areas of outstanding natural beauty like the Cotswolds, this diversity creates unexpected and exciting challenges for us on a daily basis.

In order to offer the best value for money for our communities we explored an alliance with the Warwickshire Police, sharing certain administrative functions. Having evaluated that relationship we took the decision to withdraw from the alliance and to create a new Business Services Directorate which will harmonise and enhance our commercially orientated approach. As a result, an opportunity to join us as part of this new Directorate now exist and we are seeking an exceptional HR professional to help take us to the next stage of our development.

Reporting directly to the Director of Business Services (one of our senior leadership team members), you will play a critical part in our future and directly impact on policing for all our residents and visitors.  Essential as part of our wider cultural change programme, the newly created Head of People and Organisational Development will lead this work, inspiring HR, L&D, OH and H&S to help us select, train and support our workforce as they face the challenges of policing in our area.

With extensive success leading HR and OD services you will evidence improvement and innovation in a comparable complex organisation. Experience of leading large-scale cultural change and service improvement, combined with senior level leadership and management experience, a track record of success in contributing to strategic organisational development and change will be key.

Proven experience of managing budgets and resource allocation and setting targets, driving delivery, measuring and monitoring progress and achieve desired outcomes will be just as important as your strong evidence of effective and collaborative stakeholder and relationship management with a range of internal colleagues, partner organisations.

The coming years will be exciting as we implement an ambitious change agenda, transforming how we deliver policing in our area. For a confidential discussion, please contact our advising consultants GatenbySanderson: Olivia Robinson on 0113 205 6298 or Peter Buffoni on 07964 877654.
