This is an outstanding opportunity to take a senior strategic leadership role in a truly unique organisation at an exciting time of unprecedented change in political and public life.
We are the House of Lords Administration, and our 635 talented and committed staff provide the administrative and logistical support for the House of Lords to work as an effective second chamber of the Parliament of the UK. As a member of the Management Board, the Finance Director will play a vital role in shaping our strategy, leading our business and determining our culture. They will be responsible for day-to-day and strategic finance leadership alike, driving transformational change and continuous improvement – to systems, processes and culture – both within and beyond the finance function. With a team of 45 and managing a budget of £3m in the Finance Department and around £250m for the Administration as a whole, the Finance Director will lead on financial planning and management, investment planning, appraisal and governance, and provision of effective advice and support to the Accounting Officer and Member Committees. They will, moreover, be accountable for a bicameral team responsible for procurement and contract management support for the House of Commons, the House of Lords and the Parliamentary Digital Service.
You are an outstanding, collaborative and inclusive leader, who will be compelling, comfortable and credible working with Boards, Committees and a wide range of senior stakeholders, both within and outside the House. Your communication skills are exceptional, your political antennae sophisticated, and your capacity to balance support and challenge in a complex space second-to-none. You will apply these qualities and more to deliver sustainable change and service improvement to our finance function, combining strategic overview with first class operational experience. You will bring, too, considerable and proven track record leading and managing a high-performing finance team in complex organisation, together with exposure to business planning, advising on/leading large programmes or projects, and significant experience of investment planning and appraisal in line with business objectives. Equally important will be your ability to influence, advise and inspire at all levels.
