Milton Keynes Council
Milton Keynes is now 50 years old and we are excited about our future. As the fastest growing city in the UK we have high aspirations for the Council, our area and most importantly, for the people who live, work and invest here. We expect the new Head of Highways to make these goals a reality.
You will have a strong strategic grasp and be able to operate effectively within a vibrant political and stakeholder environment. You will also need to demonstrate the capacity to lead service improvements, secure better outcomes and ensure good value for money. Above all, you will show a passion to deliver great services to the people of Milton Keynes.
Reporting to Director of Environment & Property, you will be responsible for policy development and management of the public highway and ultimately ensuring the safety of the Highway Network. You will demonstrate excellent relationship skills to ensure a positive relationship continues with the highways service provider.
The Highways Service is the front door to the Council with over 1,100km of roads, 300km of Redway, 1158 bridges/structures, 1,900km of footways and 70,000 street lighting columns. It is a critical service for the Council and the scope of the role is considerable; including NRSWA, Traffic Management, Highway Licensing, Street Lighting, Highway Schemes and Improvements, Road Safety, Development Control, Bridges and Structures and Community Liaison.
As part of a collaborative management team, this is a great opportunity for an individual with the energy to lead, inspire and motivate a team to play a key part in the future of our city.
