The Independent Ethics Panel has a key role in helping the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner and Chief Constable build the trust and confidence of the public and partners in South Yorkshire Police.  This is done by ensuring the code of ethics is culturally embedded across the organisation and is demonstrated through the way South Yorkshire Police thinks and behaves.

We are currently looking to recruit a new member to bolster our already established Independent Ethics Panel (IEP) and separate Independent Advisory Panel for Policing Protests (IAPPP). 

The IEP, one of only three independent ethics panels in the country, is an essential element of the PCC’s governance arrangements, providing independent and effective challenge and assurance around the integrity, standards and ethics of decision-making.  It helps raise the profile of ethics and support the Chief Constable in embedding the Policing Code of Ethics in the South Yorkshire force.   The IAPPP is convened as and when a protest occurs in South Yorkshire and the PCC / CC believes the Panel could add value.

We are seeking candidates with strong community links, integrity and credibility, and a passion for making South Yorkshire a safe place to live, learn and work. To be successful you must be proactive in your approach and able to offer effective and appropriate support and challenge.  We are also very keen to improve the diversity of the Panel, to ensure it reflects the communities we serve.

We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who can demonstrate their ability to think strategically, develop positive and productive relationships with key stakeholders and be excellent communicators / listeners.

If you live in South Yorkshire, have the necessary skills, experience and enthusiasm and can commit to attendance and the preparation for around six formal meetings a year, and carrying out assurance activity in between meetings, we want to hear from you.

This role attracts an allowance and all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
