South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner
South Yorkshire Police has undergone a period of considerable organisational change since 2016, including implementation of its current operating model. New structures, systems and processes have been designed. The focus now is on efficiency and productivity.
We are currently looking to recruit a new Chair and member(s) to bolster our already established Joint Independent Audit Committee (JIAC). The Committee’s main purpose is to provide independent assurance about the adequacy and effectiveness of the governance, risk, data quality, internal control and financial management arrangements of South Yorkshire Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner.
We are therefore looking for candidates with integrity and credibility and a passion for making South Yorkshire a safe place to live, learn and work. You must be proactive in your approach and able to offer effective and appropriate support and challenge. We are also very keen to improve the diversity of the Committee, to ensure it reflects the communities we serve. Candidates do not need to have a finance qualification and to complement the skills of our existing members, we particularly welcome applications from people with experience and understanding of at least one of the following areas:
• Assurance frameworks, including risk-based assurance mapping;
• Main areas of fraud risk to which the organisations are exposed;
• Financial management, including treasury management.
In addition, those candidates interested in the position of Committee Chair must be able to develop positive and productive relationships with key stakeholders including the Police and Crime Commissioner, Chief Constable and their senior officers, external auditors and the head of internal audit. Excellent leadership qualities will be required to ensure the Committee fulfils its responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner.
Members must reside in South Yorkshire and be independent of both the Force and the Police and Crime Commissioner. Members will be appointed for a period of one 3-year term and be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. These roles attract an allowance and all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
