Big Society Capital‘s purpose is to improve the lives of people in the UK, by connecting social impact investment to charities and social enterprises. We are a globally unique investment organisation that was set up in 2012 and since then have alongside our co-investors committed £1.3bn to new investments. As an investor, we seek to contribute to solutions to social challenges and we work with diverse partners to pro-actively identify problems and co-design solutions. We are now going to focus our effort more on three areas where our experience has shown us that there is a particular opportunity for social investment to make a difference: homes for those in need, supporting communities to improve lives and early action to prevent harm.
Housing is an area of strategic focus for us, with the goal of creating a fairer housing market where people, particularly vulnerable people, are able to live in secure and affordable homes and communities. The UK’s housing market is failing many people, with rising levels of homelessness and people living in unsuitable accommodation. Social investment is already tackling this by partnering with housing associations, developing new financial instruments to connect more capital to the sector and supporting specialist and smaller housing providers. We have already committed around £400m in housing alongside co-investors and housed more than 2,000 people. In our view, delivering the homes the UK needs will require new partnerships and a diversity of innovative solutions. As an investor driven by social purpose, we want to be part of those solutions.
We are now looking to recruit a talented new Director who will strategically lead our work in this area through a dedicated team. You will be in the driving seat to develop innovative partnerships and social investment propositions in housing with a wide range of key stakeholders, including institutional investors, housing associations, developers, national and local governments, charities and social enterprises, trusts and foundations. You will take responsibility for sourcing and analysing new investments that tackle housing need, identifying issues and business models within housing where social investment may have a role to improve or scale outcomes. Working with co-investors, intermediaries and housing providers, you will play a critical role in developing solutions that meet our social impact and financial objectives. You will be required to take a collaborative approach to building proposals as well as assessing them and will also have responsibility for deal execution, from origination and due diligence through to legal documentation and closing, as well as portfolio monitoring and management.

We require someone who is highly analytical, has investment experience, is able to develop key partnerships, and align themselves with our vision, mission and values.
