The University of Nottingham is embarking on an exciting journey to implement an organisation-wide transformation roadmap to deliver the University’s ambitious 21st Century Global Strategy, placing the student experience at the heart of everything we do. But we know there is more to do.

We are looking ahead to the period 2020 – 2025 and the next stage of our development, to become the recognised digital exemplar for the Higher Education sector, now that the platform for future innovation has been determined. Our Director of Technology Officer will play a pivotal role in helping us to realise this vision.  

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will define and navigate, the future digital, data and technology roadmap for the University. As our new Director of Technology, you will be accountable for mapping out the principal technology choices open to the University to achieve its strategic goals, validating proposals and building business cases to support associated investment where needed. Whilst contributing towards maturing the digital, data and technology architecture capability of the University, you will also lead the development of the University as an intelligent customer, including partnership working with suppliers, recognising the value that fresh ideas and external perspectives can bring, to meet familiar and new, technology challenges.    

The Person

You will be an experienced, adept technologist and business leader, able to define, validate and articulate, multi-channel, digital, data and technology architecture-led solutions, from concept through to delivery, to technical and non-technical audiences, with equal degrees of success. Commercially astute, you will have a proven track record of procuring and exploiting innovative technology to deliver tangible cost savings, whilst building and presenting Business Cases for investment at Executive level, within a large, complex, multi-faceted organisation. You will have a track record of working with procurement professionals to lead the on-boarding of suppliers to deliver demonstrable return on investment and of building capability and capacity as an intelligent provider and customer of digital, data and technology services.
