Ref: GSe47496

Funded by NHS England and the West of England healthcare organisations, the West of England Academic Health Science Network (West of England AHSN) is one of 15 AHSNs created by government with the twin objectives of improving healthcare and generating wealth.  We focus on bringing together our health service community, industry, higher education, research bodies, patients and the wider public to work in partnership and take patient care and experience to new levels.  Our aims are simple - to deliver measurable gains in health and wellbeing across the West of England; to make a meaningful contribution to the regional and national economy; and to build a learning and delivery network to accelerate innovation and improvement; and change healthcare culture.

Whilst our work is focused on the West of England (which includes Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire, Bristol, North Somerset, Bath, North East Somerset, Wiltshire and Swindon), many of our projects are of national significance.  In these ever changing and increasingly challenging times we are striving to develop solutions and bring together expertise via cross sector collaboration and partnerships, new funding models, increased research and new product development.  Innovation is at the heart of our mission to deliver a modern, constantly improving healthcare system for the West of England.

The Director of Innovation and Growth will lead the West of England Innovation and Growth workstream, including national and local programmes.  Acting as a system integrator and facilitator the director will engage with members and partners to develop a strategy and quantified delivery plan for the West of England AHSN realising commercial potential of health related opportunities and delivering the requirements of the license with NHS England. The role will enable both transformational and transactional improvement to the interface between health, education and industry.

We are seeking a strategic and ambitious leader able to apply a working knowledge of industry sectors, NHS and Higher Education (infrastructure and culture) to drive forward successful entrepreneurial and innovative working based on collaboration and partnerships.  Commercially and financially astute, with a track record of brokering solutions with a diverse range of interests and organisations across sectors and wide geography, this is a role for an individual able to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, from industry leaders to key policy makers.  Articulate, credible and with a high degree of personal integrity above all else, you will be driven by the desire to make a substantial difference to the economy and population of the West of England.
