Transforming the workforce of the future

Walsall Council is embarking on an ambitious, fast paced, transformation programme – the Walsall Proud Programme, designed to make Walsall a great place to live and work.  New ways of working and new ways of thinking lie at the heart of our approach to meeting the growing range of challenges and opportunities presented by increased demand and expectations of its services from its citizens, business community and our employees who will be pivotal to embedding the changes.

This period of transformation offers an exciting opportunity for an HR Leader to provide strategic organisational development and workforce leadership across the organisation.  Working in partnership with Elected Members, Council Directorates and other partner organisations, you will support the Executive Director in leading the development and implementation of a transformational approach to service design aligned to the Council’s Corporate Plan.

You will take responsibility for providing strategic direction, leadership, workforce planning and organisational development expertise to enable the Council to become a high performing organisation, delivering excellent quality services through an engaged, energised and skilled workforce.  A key aspect will be leading the development and delivery of the organisation’s workforce strategy.  This will ensure that services are focused upon delivering value for money through a skilled, high performing workforce who provide proactive, flexible and effective outcomes.

You will be a passionate, creative and compelling advocate for HR and OD and the key enabler role it can play; have a tenacious, robust, can-do mentality and a restless appetite for continuous improvement.  Educated to degree level or possessing equivalent relevant experience and Membership of a relevant professional body, you should also bring an understanding of and belief in, the value and importance of public service.
