As the third largest authority in the North West and home to one of the strongest economies in the region, Cheshire East Council is an award winning and dynamic organisation determined to develop new ways of working and deliver excellent cost-effective services to our residents. The Council is embarking on a whole organisation transformation programme – Brighter Future Together – and this post will have a key role in taking the programme forward in the Place Directorate.
We are in a great location at Cheshire East with excellent transport links, and we have numerous exciting opportunities to further grow the economy over the next few years – including the arrival of HS2 and the consequent developments across the borough. But we are also aware that we need to make better use of our land and assets, in order to bolster our income and ensure that local businesses have the facilities and support they need to grow. Like many other councils, we also need to build more houses, including affordable housing.
That is why this is such a key role for us, and our new Director of Growth and Enterprise will need to ensure that we can deliver our ambitious agenda across these areas. The post manages four interlinked service areas: housing growth, economic development, culture and tourism and estates. Working closely with elected Members, you will need to build strategic relationships with the LEP, government agencies, and the private sector in order to develop and deliver major schemes and projects and support our economic strategy. We are therefore looking for candidates with experience of managing large scale land or property schemes and a keen interest in ‘place shaping’. You will need to be ambitious, determined and commercially focused, with excellent political skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide array of stakeholders.
