Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust is the first acute and community trust in the country to be rated ‘Outstanding’ on two consecutive occasions by the Care Quality Commission.  Salford Royal is a University Teaching Trust and an integrated provider of hospital, community, social and primary care services. We provide local services to the City of Salford and specialist services to Greater Manchester, the North West and beyond. Salford Royal provides the Greater Manchester Trauma Centre and the Greater Manchester Neurosciences Centre.

Salford Royal is accredited as a Foundation Trust leader in the development of an NHS Group.  During 2016/17 Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust provided leadership and operational support to Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. From April 2017, both Trusts formalised Group working arrangements, with the two Trust Boards delegating their functions to the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group Committees in Common, to oversee the delivery of reliable, high quality, evidence-based care and services.

As the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Group we are one of the largest NHS organisations in the country, serving a population of over 1 million people, with 17,000 staff members and more than 2000 beds.

We are looking for two exceptional Non-Executive Directors to join the Salford Royal Board of Directors, and therefore the Group Committees in Common. Both roles require experience of operating at a senior level; one requires a chartered accountant with expertise in financial strategy and the ability to contribute to and critically appraise strategies, including the Group’s financial strategy. The second role requires experience of successfully leading transformational change in a large and complex organisation, in order to support the Group in developing robust workforce strategies that deliver service improvement.  Both roles require intellectual flexibility and a patient and community focus.  Prior experience of the NHS is not required.

You will join an exceptionally strong board, complementing the skills of the existing team. And, working closely with the Council of Governors, you will work to ensure continuing local accountability.  You will be able to demonstrate an ability to challenge, influence and build consensus on a wide range of issues and be able to demonstrate a successful track record and independence.
