Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for the arts and a strong background in finance, audit, or risk management? Factory International – the organisation behind Manchester International Festival and the landmark new cultural space, Aviva Studios – is seeking a committed and insightful individual to join our Board of Trustees and take on the vital role of Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee.

As a bold and imaginative cultural force rooted in Manchester, Factory International produces a year-round programme of original work and one-of-a-kind events, supporting the world’s most exciting artists and nurturing the next generation of local talent. We are looking for a Trustee who shares our values and can bring financial expertise, governance insight, and a collaborative spirit to help shape our future. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your skills to an organisation that is inventing tomorrow together through art, music and culture.

About the Role

As a Trustee and Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee, you will:

  • Provide strategic oversight of Factory International’s financial health, risk management, and internal controls.
  • Lead the Finance & Audit Committee, working closely with fellow trustees, the Executive Team, and auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with charity and company law and uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
  • Act as a key ambassador for Factory International, championing our mission and values both internally and externally.
  • Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in all decision-making and uphold the Nolan Principles of public life.

What We’re Looking For

  • Senior-level experience in finance, audit, or risk management.
  • A recognised financial qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent expertise.
  • A strong understanding of charity governance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience chairing or contributing to Finance or Audit Committees.
  • Excellent judgement, communication skills, and a collaborative leadership style.
  • High ethical standards and independent thinking, with the ability to act as a critical friend to senior staff.

Desirable

  • Experience serving as a trustee or in a professional capacity within a charitable organisation.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn about the financial landscape in arts, culture or charitable organisations.

We believe in being open, inventive, equitable, determined and international. These are the values we embody through the work we do and how we do it – representing Greater Manchester and making Factory International a great place to work and contribute.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds and actively encourage expressions of interest from under-represented groups. The arts should reflect the diversity of the world we live in – and so should we.
