Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC) delivers community-based healthcare services to the 1.1 million residents of Birmingham and specialist services to 5.5 million people within the wider West Midlands region.

We are dedicated to delivering the best care we can to those who need our services and to working with our partners within the Birmingham & Solihull and Black Country Integrated Care System Cluster to help build healthy communities. We are one of the largest providers of NHS community services in the country, with over 5,000 dedicated staff working across 300 sites in Birmingham and the West Midlands and with an annual turnover in excess of £365 million.

We care for people throughout their lives; from the new-born and their families to the frail elderly and their carers. Our services are diverse and include health lifestyle services that keep people feeling well to the most complex healthcare for those with highly specialist needs. We provide care in people’s homes and also in clinics and inpatient units across the city. We deliver all of this with a commitment to integrated, personalised care that is rooted in our local communities.

Birmingham is a young and thriving city. We serve some of the most deprived communities in the country, as well as some of the most ethnically diverse, and we recognise the importance of tackling inequality and its impact on health and life chances. We know we can only respond fully to the needs of those we serve if we are a truly inclusive organisation for our colleagues.

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity for a collaborative and strategic individual with recent board-level clinical leadership experience to join our Board as a Non-Executive Director and be part of ensuring that we deliver our vision; Best Care: Healthy Communities and provide outstanding care to those whom we serve. Equality and inclusion are at the heart of this vision and our strategy, and our Non-Executive Directors must provide leadership and drive engagement with our local communities. We operate within a complex stakeholder environment and our Non-Executive Directors will quickly gain credibility and build trusted relationships with our service users, carers, staff, Governors and our partners within the Birmingham & Solihull and Black Country ICS cluster, and the wider Midland’s region.

We recognise the critical importance of quality improvement as we deliver on our vision.  Joining our Quality Committee, this role will bring fresh perspective and constructive challenge based on recent experience of a front-line clinical leadership role.

We are keen to hear from those with an understanding, or ability to show commitment to, the diverse social, economic and ethnic communities we serve, with the kindness and empathy to engage and understand the challenges they face. You will demonstrate sound judgement, strong political acumen, exceptional communication skills, and an ability to lead others to deliver our mission and vision. This is an exceptional and rewarding opportunity to use your energy, skills and experience to make a lasting difference to the health and well-being of people served by our Trust now and in the future.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate senior leadership experience, ideally at Board level and live within the West Midlands.

If you feel that this could be a good fit for you and that our values resonate with your own, we would love to hear from you.
