ISI is appointed by the UK Government to inspect independent schools in England which are in membership of the Independent Schools Council (ISC), private further education colleges, and British Schools Overseas. It is also appointed to inspect provision for international qualified teacher status.

We assure standards across the diverse range of more than 1,400 schools that make up the membership of the ISC, educating more than 500,000 children in England. We have inspection experience in over 50 countries across five continents. As a result, we make a significant contribution to sector awareness of the importance of effective quality assurance in education.

We are seeking a Director Legal, Regulation and Complaints to join our Executive Leadership Team. They will also work closely with the two other Directors to inform strategy. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a proven track record of improving complaints processes in complex stakeholder environments. The successful candidate will combine this with in-depth understanding of regulation and the ability to horizon scan and anticipate change. They will ensure that ISI remains fully compliant with our statutory obligations. They will have experience in building and developing a team, and they will share our passion for the impact of inspections on the education sector. An experienced communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, they will be pragmatic, professionally curious and proactive. A professional legal qualification is helpful but not essential. The successful candidate will not necessarily have professional experience from within the education sector, but will bring an understanding of and interest in our education system.

The post holder will join at an exciting time for ISI, with our national inspection framework starting its third year, and the recent introduction of a revised framework for our inspection of British Schools Overseas.
