The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) is an independent organisation, that investigate complaints about UK government departments, other public organisations and the NHS in England.

PHSO shares findings from casework with Parliament and more widely to influence improvements that improves organisations and people’s experience of them. PHSO believes in the power of complaints to reveal the truth, bring closure, and drive systemic improvement: holding public bodies to account and ensuring that the lessons learned lead to broader positive change.

As Director of Resources, you will play a critical role in supporting high performance, providing outstanding leadership to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of multiple corporate functions (People, Finance, Governance). Operating at board level as a member of the Executive Team, you will also contribute to the strategic direction of PHSO at an important time of change as we welcome our new Ombudsman, and in anticipation of public sector reform.

With a relevant track record of senior leadership spanning multiple corporate services, you will be an energetic, inspiring and developmental leader with a track record of elevating performance and building capability across multiple functions in support of organisational goals. With some prior exposure to the public sector, you will bring experience of working across complex stakeholder landscapes in the delivery of business improvement and operational excellence, and will be a coherent and credible communicator, able to build trust and collaboration at all levels through your strategic and transparent approach.

Commercially and financially astute (with a relevant current financial qualification), you will be a supportive leader and excellent board operator with a contemporary skill set that will help to further elevate the capability of this important directorate, extending to your ability to embed our culture of inclusion, excellence, and organisational continuous improvement.
