Islington & Shoreditch Housing Association (ISHA) is a community and neighbourhood-based housing association, managing and developing quality affordable homes  for people in North and East London. We are rich in  history, with roots going back more than  90 years when  we were involved in tackling slum clearance, overcrowding and high rents. We have since had strong growth periods and we now own and manage 2,500 homes, with ambitions to continue development across Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest. We have a turnover of £29m and net assets of £313m.  We have just entered the final year of our 2020-25 Corporate Strategy which has 8 strategic pillars with our two biggest priorities being safety and service & satisfaction.

Our mission is to co-create homes and communities where everyone can flourish.  We are committed to ensuring that no person should suffer disadvantage in terms of access to affordable housing, and we offer a wide range of housing choices including social rented, shared ownership, market rent, supported housing and  homes and support for the Vietnamese, South East Asian and wider communities through our 2019 merger with the Lien Viet Housing Association.

Our Chair of Audit and Risk will step down in September 2025 and ahead of this we are looking to recruit a Board Member and Designate Chair of Audit and Risk to ensure a smooth transition. Our ideal candidate will bring a broad understanding of risk management, particularly in a property and estates context, as well as previous governance experience. You will have knowledge of directing or governing a complex, regulated business such as ours and share our passion for delivering first class customer outcomes.

Bringing strategic leadership skills from organisations in similar, ever-changing, customer focussed environments, you will be team focussed with considerable energy to support our sustainable growth. Though previous chairing experience is not a requirement, you will have skills in managing conversations and getting the best out of your teams.

We are proud of our diversity and want our board to reflect the communities we serve, including gender, disability, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation and identity.  We wish to encourage people with the broadest possible range of backgrounds and perspectives to express an interest in this role. Lived experience of the services we provide, whether personally or through your work, is always valued.
