AAT is the world’s leading professional body for accounting technicians. With 124,000 members we operate with considerable reach across a complex international landscape, developing accessible finance qualifications to ensure businesses can draw upon skilled people to meet their challenges head on. We anticipate and respond to frequent changes in industry, regulation, and education to support the profession, and believe our ability to break down barriers and empower people with real world experience has never been more relevant or important.

As with any professional body, AAT’s future sustainability and continued positive impact is dependent upon our relevance to current and future members, our ability to build public trust and confidence in accountancy, and our timely and appropriate response to external influences and market conditions. We must pay attention to the outside world, evolving our offerings, approaches and partnerships to maximise our relevance and value to current and future members and employers. In doing so, we will stay at the forefront of progress and change to grow and support a profession that is trusted and valued.

Now one year into our Securing Future Relevance strategy (2023-2030), we are seeking to appoint a new Professional Standards and Regulation Director who will be tasked with overseeing the regulatory framework, standards and operations for the registration and ongoing practice of AAT accountants and licensed members within the AAT. This is a critically important position that will ensure all regulatory activity stands up to scrutiny and aligns with our commitment to integrity, professionalism and public trust.

We are looking for a proactive, highly credible individual who is ready to lead this critically important and growing function. Accountable to AAT’s Professional Regulation and Standards Compliance Board, and the Single Point of Contact for Anti-Money Laundering supervision purposes, you will operate with visibility and influence, iteratively developing the function in response to legislative, regulatory and industry change, and extending your influence internally and externally to ensure professional standards evolve and are met in the public interest.

Having performed a relevant role in a regulated, dynamic industry sector (ideally regulating both businesses and individuals), you will bring a strong understanding of the regulatory environment in the UK, and a skill set that encompasses regulatory risk mitigation, inclusive and developmental leadership capability, and outstanding stakeholder management credentials. Whilst prior knowledge and experience of working with Anti-Money Laundering supervision is highly desirable, what is more important is your ability to marry technical credibility with an ability to influence a broad range of industry, regulatory and government stakeholders to improve professional outcomes and maximise the visibility and standing of the profession to the public.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a strong leader and relationship builder who is ready to make their mark on the accountancy profession. If this sounds like the opportunity for you, we look forward to hearing from you.
