Alternative Futures Group (AFG) is one of the largest not for profit Health and Social Care charities in the North West and has been changing lives, creating independence and achieving great outcomes for the brilliant people we support.

We are looking for a new Trustee and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee to join us to help steer our strategy and oversee our finances, investment and growth. Building on the leadership and significant contribution of the previous Chair, they will be able to lead and challenge the Committee, Board and Executive whilst always keeping the individuals and families AFG supports at the forefront of every decision.

With an annual turnover of over £60m, we employ over 2,000 staff who proudly support around 900 people with a range of learning disabilities and mental health issues. Our personalised services are tailored to meet the specific needs of each and every person we support. We focus on the things that are important to the people we support, ensuring together, we help them to reach the outcomes they want to achieve.

As a Board of Trustees, we acknowledge the expertise people bring and seek to support, in any way we can, Trustees executing their pivotal role by offering practical and professional support alongside regular informal and annual catchups with the Chair. The ability to contribute professional experience together with a commitment to collective decision making, underpinned by an inclusive and value driven approach, would provide you with the necessary attributes we are seeking for this important role.

As a Trustee and Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee, you will share our belief that people with disabilities should be supported to live independently, as full citizens. You will demonstrate strong communication skills, will the ability to work effectively as part of a team and challenge constructively where necessary. You will act as an ambassador for AFG, helping to raise our profile and fulfilling your statutory duties as a Trustee, to determine the strategic direction of the charity through good governance, acting in the best interests of a charity at all times.

This role requires attendance at 4 virtual board meetings, 1 in person board meeting, 4 virtual subcommittee meetings, and 2 in person development days a year. There is also an expectation for trustees to be visible, proactive and engaged with the Board, executive colleagues and wider organisation outside of Board meetings.
