To achieve this, we seek a Chief Digital and Data Officer to join our Board (non-voting), driving our ambitious digital agenda and ensuring technology enables our organisation to thrive.

Role Overview:

As a member of the Board reporting to the CEO, the Chief Digital and Data Officer will play a crucial role in nurturing and delivering our future digital strategic direction. As our CDDO you will have a demonstratable track record in delivering high-quality and innovative digital and change programmes, with an ability to steer the digital direction of the Trust and influence, inspire and unify those along the journey.

This influential position will work collaboratively with external partners, including Sussex Health and Care Partnership and NHS England, to translate our strategy into tangible digital outcomes. Responsibilities:

  • Lead, shape and execute the roadmap for an innovative digital, data and technology strategy that reflects the current and future needs of our patients, citizens and staff alongside broader NHS priorities
  • Ensure the overall Digital Service meets the organisation's 24/7 operational requirements, including IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, information services, programme and change management, IT training, data quality, and architecture design whilst also spearheading the development and maintenance of robust digital and data infrastructure to ensure high-quality, secure digital services supporting exceptional patient care.
  • Drive the integration of digital and data as a core aspect of our service offering, fostering digital competency within our workforce so they can use, understand, manipulate and question data to effectively care for their patients and effectively deliver improvements to their services
  • Act as the Trust's Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO), ensuring compliance with national cybersecurity standards and implementing strategies to mitigate information governance risks.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners across the Sussex Integrated Care System. Drive technological advancements and data-informed decisions through effective collaboration and partnership.
  • Champion the adoption of cutting-edge digital health services and technologies. Engage with regional and national forums to influence policy, secure investments, and promote the Trust as a leader in digital health innovation.

Key Criteria:

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills that engender community confidence, strong collaboration and partnership
  • Extensive experience of developing and implementing transformational digital strategies to scale in a medium to large complex organisation, or across a network of organisations NB: Sound knowledge and experience of NHS systems and processes and how digital capability can impact on healthcare outcomes is desirable but not essential
  • Highly resilient - able to challenge and promote new ways of working, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Experience of operating to or at board level, with responsibility for meeting service and business performance targets
  • Awareness and practical knowledge of industry standard security issues and processes, including being able to apply cyber security, data protection laws and regulations and business continuity principles
  • Experience of nurturing high performing multi-disciplinary teams, inspiring and motivating others with evidence of commitment to promoting equality and inclusion.
