Turning Point is one of the largest healthcare providers in the UK with an annual turnover of close to £200million. We are a leading social enterprise, designing and delivering health and social care services in the fields of substance use, mental health, learning disability, autism, acquired brain injury, sexual health, homelessness, and healthy lifestyles. We currently work in over 280 locations across England, empowering those they support to improve their health and wellbeing, learn, and bring about positive change in their lives.

The role of Chief People Officer comes at an exciting time within the organisation’s history. In 2024, Turning Point turns 60 and this role could not be more important in ensuring that we continue to deliver societal impact long into the future.

In the financial year 2022-2023, we supported over 171,000 individuals across 283 geographical locations through almost 5,000 colleagues (500 hold management positions), 162 Peer Mentors and 68 Volunteers. We are proud that 60% of our colleagues have lived experience of the challenges the people we support face either personally or through close personal association.

Our colleagues truly are our greatest asset, and we work tirelessly to collectively co-create the working conditions that enable us all to thrive. We seek to continuously build our capability, a key requirement in a growing organisation, whilst leveraging our strong foundations. We encourage self-development and a curiosity that propels our colleagues to find out more, seek context and be the best they can possibly be.

The role will work directly with the Chief Executive and the Operating Board, all of whom recognise the importance of our cultural evolution. Alongside a passion for the wider people agenda, the successful candidate will bring:

  • evidence of consistent achievement in strategic HR leadership in a complex organisation and confidently leading change

  • record of success in financial and budget management

  • experience in effectively integrating services or functions following TUPE transfers or a merger/acquisition and record of managing employee relations in a unionised environment

  • background of optimising talent in a wide variety of contexts and succession planning at all levels

  • awareness of best practice in learning & development to support service improvement and delivery including leadership / management programmes and approaches

  • ability to establish effective people metrics and to place evidence, facts and data at the centre of decision making and optimise the use of technology and to streamline effective systems and processes

  • determination to uphold and actively demonstrate behaviours that align with organisational values at all times

Our new Chief People Officer will be pivotal in us achieving our ambitious goals as they take their seat at the top table and help us to meet the ever-changing needs evident in society as a whole. They will be adept at working flexibly, effectively and cohesively across central and operational functions. Our colleagues need to feel supported, motivated and highly engaged, to deliver great outcomes in tough conditions.
