Cheshire West Recycling (CWR) is a wholly owned company of Cheshire West and Chester Council that delivers excellent waste services, balancing environmental and social principles with a commercial approach. Delivering waste collection and recycling services, providing around 440,000 collections each week, we are  leading positive change to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill and helping to meet our sustainability ambitions.

This is an exciting time to join CWR – since our creation in 2020, we have invested in a new fleet of vehicles to support the delivery of a new waste strategy across our Borough, developed new fleet workshops and depot, whilst driving efficiency and building upon our environmental credentials. We are forever seeking innovation, developing new ideas and ways of working. We are developing new services, attracting new customers and being more commercial in how we operate.

With a new Chair and Managing Director appointed in 2023, we are seeking to further develop our board with a new NED position with a focus on financial management. We are seeking someone who embraces our cooperative principles and embodies our values of responsible, safe, trusted and innovative. Whilst experience in waste services is not essential, we are seeking someone with a strong background in finance who ideally has an understanding of local government or public sector finances.  You will bring an understanding of strong governance arrangements, able to offer constructive challenge and support to the board and wider organisation, putting people, quality of service and the communities we serve, at the heart of everything we do.

Our NEDs are expected to commit two to three days per month to CW Recycling, including board and committee meetings, alongside engagement with partners and stakeholders. We would expect our NED to work agile including face-to-face meetings and site visits, as well as meetings conducted online.
