The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) is an educational charity and the leading body in the UK for taxation professionals. Its goals are to promote education and learning in taxation, to pursue excellence and promote standards and to represent an engaged and growing membership. The CIOT represents a strong voice in the sector, working for a better tax system for all.  The CIOT supports 19,700 members and over CTA 7000 students throughout their tax careers, covering a broad range of areas in taxation to address the needs of the future market in an increasingly digitised tax landscape. The CIOT promotes professional integrity and technical excellence in tax and publishes information and guidance to increase public understanding of tax, working with HMRC and others for a simpler, clearer tax system.

The Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) is a leading professional body for those providing UK tax compliance services, with over 9,500 members and Fellows and over 5,000 students. Its charitable objectives are to advance public education in and promote the study of tax practice, to prevent crime and to promote the sound administration of the law for public benefit.

Now is an exciting time to join the Senior Management Team of the CIOT/ATT leading and managing the Finance team, with primary responsibility for all statutory and management reporting and transactional accounting services for both.  The CFO will be delivering common services to two organisations, which share a common staff of over 80 and circa 200 volunteers but have two separate governing Councils with trustees.  You will be responsible for leading and delivering the annual budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning activities of the two charities and for treasury and investment management activities.  As the Officer responsible to the finance and audit committees of the two charities, you will successfully manage the approval of financial policies, budgets and forecasts by these bodies, and then by the two Councils.

As the CFO, you will bring your strong and adaptive interpersonal, influencing and communication skills to this role in order to build effective working relationships and represent the CIOT/ATT appropriately to external and internal stakeholders, and help in the overall development of both organisations. The successful candidate will be a qualified senior level financial manager (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CIPFA) with knowledge of financial analysis, planning and forecasting and experience in managing auditor and investment relationships.   Evidence of a thorough understanding of charitable sector financial and reporting requirements is also desirable.

This role offers a flexible hybrid working pattern and in order to support business outcomes, and as a member of the SMT, you will be expected to spend regular time in the office on a weekly basis. The CIOT is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all.
