At CSCS, we help to improve standards and safety on UK sites through enabling construction players to prove that individuals working on sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do. Owned by industry and trade unions and run as a not-for-profit company, CSCS is the largest of 38 card schemes operating in the UK construction industry. All schemes are authorised to use the CSCS logo under license, and all schemes participate in the CSCS Alliance, with CSCS providing strategic and practical support.
The appointment of our next Independent Chair will be made at an important time for the sector we serve. The Grenfell Tower Inquiry shed light on fundamental shortcomings and systemic public safety issues in the UK construction industry, and the evolving Building Safety Bill will continue to impact construction’s regulatory and operational landscape for the better. We have a unique and practical role to play in supporting such change and it is imperative that we maximise our relevance to industry and the trades we serve, maintaining consistent levels of quality and managing conflicts of interest whilst remaining focused on our core purpose to maximise site safety.
We are now looking for a collaborative, Independent Chair to lead us on the next stage of our journey. With experience of board or committee leadership in a similar context, you will be familiar with complex stakeholder/owner landscapes, accustomed to navigating multiple agendas and dynamic industry conditions to help steer a course to business success. Financially astute and intellectually capable, you will not only believe in our mission, but will also have the experience to inform and support our commitment to continuous improvement, customer excellence and equity, diversity and inclusion. With outstanding board and financial governance credentials and risk management capability, you will play a key role in ensuring that we succeed on behalf of industry.
We are open to securing a fresh perspective on our opportunities and challenges, so you may be new to the sector. Regardless of background, we must appoint a leader of the utmost integrity and credibility. With a grounded, pragmatic approach, your ability to build strong, respectful working relationships will be key to success here. In return, we suggest this has the potential to be a personally fulfilling role in which you will work with and support the success of a dedicated and talented group who are committed to the industry sector they serve.
We are excited about our future and hope you will consider applying for this important role.
